Yeah, I didn't see this one coming. My group and I came into class one week before Thanksgiving and noticed that the studio looked bare. The training equipment was still there but all the pictures and trophies were gone. Spring cleaning? I doubt it. The owner never cleans the studio...
I talked to one of the other Instructors after class. He gave me a memo from the owner that said the Studio will be closing after November. That night I jumped on the computer looking for other places to conduct my class. Most other places were using the same time slot I was looking for.
So for a temporary solution, my group and I work out in the Arcadia park. The lighting is decent when the field is in use, plenty of running space and best of all, pull up bars! So if anyone wants to workout in the outdoors, the class capacity just grew a whole lot! ;)

Ch.3 - Family Practice

Great news today! Never did I ever expect this to happen one day... But it DID! My Father took my class today!
I remember for years I tried to suggest he come and train with me at my ol' studio where my Coach, Mr. Frack teaches, but no luck. Last Monday, I invited my Dad to come and try. He didn't make it for whatever reason. Then on Wednesday, he came along with my brother and I. Oh yeah, if I did not mention before, my younger brother takes my class.
My Father has always been into exercise (mostly Tennis, recently been taken Salsa classes). He is pushing 60 so I figured he would stick to recreational activities that have minimal impact.
I paired my brother off with two younger guys so I can start slower with my Dad and see how he does. Then as I held the mitts, he started to make his game face. You know that face athletes make when they are in the competition zone? It was so surreal that I was holding back my smile as I called out numbers for him. Can anyone else relate to seeing your Father do their thing?
Then near the end of class, we did our WOD (Workout of the Day). It was 4 rounds for time consisting of a quadruplet (meaning 4 different exercises to make 1 round). I told my Dad he had the choice of doing 2 rounds rather than 4 (remember my Dad is almost 60 and it is his first day; I don't want to break him). He got through his two rounds, just as I predicted and no more. Me and the other guys are young bucks so we did all four rounds. My glutes and legs are gonna' scream tomorrow :>)

Ch.2 - The 411 on the Instructor
Ok, if you have read beyond the intro, you want to know "who" is this Fernando? What has he done? Where does he come from?

All will be explained, kimosabi.
He has been studying under Coach Don Frack for 10 years.

All will be explained, kimosabi.
Fernando is a third degree black belt from the Frack-Ryu fighting sytem of Covina, Ca.
He has been studying under Coach Don Frack for 10 years.
However, achieving rank was not enough for Fernando. He has tested himself in a kickboxing smoker bout. The Long Beach Internationals no gi grappling tournament
, and many inhouse sparring
sessions.
, and many inhouse sparringsessions.
After graduating from Citrus College in 2009, Fernando had plans to either move up in his company or take a new position at another. So far neither plan has delivered (Curse this economy!). Instead of getting frustrated about the situation, he made another plan...
Now it brings us to the present time. He started his own business. Thats right, he has to answer to himself.

Ch.1 - A new Class in Arcadia
Hello, there. Thank you for visitng my blog. This is for your veiwing pleasure of who I am and what my program is about. Who knows, you might get inspired to come down and try a class. You are more than welcome too ;>)
First my name is Fernando. Its a funny thing how we come into this world with one name, but as we go on people come up with more for us. Now its Ninja, and all kinds of other names that I won't list now.
I teach an MMA themed workout class at the present time. No worries, its not a sparring class, but its also not an aerobic kickboxing class either. It involves a lot of partner drills where not only you work the moves but you coach your partner. Sounds complicated? No worries, thats what I'm here for ;>)
It is located at Arcadia Shotokan in downtown Arcadia. Originally, the place was a traditional karate school. Still is, just that it offers more now (me).
The address is 113 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA 91006 .
The nearest major cross street is Santa Anita Ave.
It is conveniently located south of the 210 freeway.
The current class times
are Monday and Wednesdays @ 6pm.
As the popularity of the class grows, more sessions will be added.
