Life after boxing

Happy Holidays to you all!

Back on November 21st, our little boxer had his fight and man, what a good fight it was! He was outweighed & outreached, but that didn't stop him from doing what he had to do ;>)

His fighter weighed in at 141lbs. the day before the fight. As you will see in this video, this guy is beyond that because my guy weighed in at 142lbs. (He is the one with his shirt on).

That day we arrived to check in. We warmed up and went over our game plan. Everything was good except for one minor thing on the part of the gym: They did not provide the head gear for my fighter like they stated they would. So while my guy walked into the ring, I ran to the parking lot to get his own head gear.

NOTE TO ALL FIGHTERS: Bring all of your stuff you think you will need because you probably will!

I rushed in and strapped my guy up thinking I had everything taken care of. However, I forgot to pull of his t-shirt. Grrrrr! Yeah, that really threw me off :>/

It was so loud and the music blasting indoors made it really hard for my fighter to hear me voice. I asked him later as to what he heard. He said "I heard give him combo 4... Then clinch... And then 10 seconds" These were cues we had rehearsed in our practice time. Other than those 3 cues in the first round, he couldn't hear anything else so he went into auto pilot for the last 2 rounds.

So now that I'm done training someone, I have a new goal for this coming year... Hiking! And back packing! Yes, as in spend the night in the mountains with only things I can carry on my back!

I saw the movie, "127 hours" and was inspired by it in every way! So on black friday, I went to Big 5 and bought water proof hiking boots, socks (regular socks are not recommended for hiking), and a BIG knife (in case I get stuck between a rock ;>)

The following Sunday, I went up the "Garcia Trail" located five minutes from my condo. I let a few people know where I headed and took my trusty sidekick, 'Pawl'. This trail leads to the giant Letter 'A' for the city of Azusa. Click these images to enlarge.

I think my boots are a little too small because my toes were killing me on the way down. I already put some wear on these boots so I cannot refund them now. Hmmm....Ebay! :>)

It was an easy first stepping stone. Next time I will invite some freinds to come along. Thats right, I am leaving the gym for a bit and taking it outdoors! Muhahahahah!

  1. Great goal Fernando. I've never been on that trail but I need to try it sometime.
